Majorca, Spain
A rustic mountain-top church ceremony followed by a star-studded reception at a luxury hotel – those were the key ingredients for Corrs drummer Caroline Corr's dream wedding to Dublin property tycoon Frank Woods on the Spanish island of Majorca. The backdrop was Deia, a small village on the western shore on the Mediterranean isle. With a population of about 842, the municipality, connected to the island's capital, Palma, by a winding road, has a number of ancient churches and monasteries among its many attractions. And it was in one of the town's beautiful hillside churches – lit only by candles after a sudden rainstorm caused a power failure – that Caroline and Frank's Roman Catholic service was held, attended by a small group of family and friends. The lavish reception which followed saw invitees gathering at the five-star La Residencia hotel, once owned by Virgin Airlines billionaire Richard Branson, who refurbished the historic building to create a star-worthy getaway. There, the A-list guests, including U2’s Bono and The Edge, dined on local cuisine, including lobster and the traditional chilled soup gazpacho.
